We also heard from author, activist and Congresisonal candidate Jerry Tetalman who'll be going up against Darrell Issa in 2012 (running in the new 49th Congressional District which encompasses south Orange County). Jerry answered questions about his campaign and let those in attendance know how each of us can be helpful to his campaign. At this meeting, we also had an important discussion involving the goals and objectives for the coming year, including establishing an office during the September - November time period for the election. The club continues to want YOUR input so please let us know your ideas as we move forward in what proves to be an exciting election year! Holiday Dinner! On Saturday, November 19th California State Controller John Chiang joined the Canyon Democrats for a special holiday membership luncheon.
The controller spoke to a packed room, discussing the state's budget and what we can expect in the year ahead. In addition to seeing lots of current members, we're happy to report that many new members joined during the event. October Meeting ![]() On October 17th we heard from Sue Reams, a founding member of FACTS who has been personally effected by the 3 Strikes Law. There is so much more to this law than most of us understood before this informative discussion. For those of you who attended this meeting, you will agree that it was quite educational. September Meeting Our September meeting (held on September 19th) included guest speaker Chris Lunghino, founder of Community Sustainability USA.
Chris told us about how lots of small actions can make a big difference for the planet. Chris' nonprofit works with groups and individuals to improve sustainability in OC by making and tracking small behavior changes. Check out Chris' website to learn more about how you can become greener. | |
